Celebrity Cruises are set to introduce a new class of cruise ship to world with the unveiling of Celebrity Solstice in December 2008, the first in the Solstice class, a series of four cruise ships that are either being built or are planned for over the next few years. As well as Celebrity Solstice, two of the new builds have names; they are Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse and are due in service in 2009 and 2010.

For many people, Celebrity Cruises Millennium class ships are considered the best cruise ships in the world, so when Celebrity announced the introduction of this new class everyone associated with cruising has been eager to find out what will set Celebrity Solstice apart from the other Celebrity Cruise ships.

With recent detail releases from Celebrity Cruises, there are at least two areas where Celebrity Solstice will have an industry first. These include Glass Blowing, not currently set for audience participation but a show created by the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, called the "Hot Glass Show." The other being a half-acre lawn (real grass) on the top deck, to be used for picnics, lawn games such as putting, bocce ball and croquet or just for letting the grass grow between your toes.

Celebrity Solstice at 118,000 tons will be Celebrity Cruises largest cruise ship and will be set to carry 2,850 passengers and her cost is a whopping $750 million (US).
